These words, they're what I live for. My passions, loved ones… what is my world without them?

Perceptions

Unconsciously or not, you have perceptions on who I am, solely based on the content of this website. You look at the minimalist layout, the words used or not, and come to a set of conclusions. Perhaps about things more connected to the website itself, such as what future posts will entail. Or, perhaps, about things more connected to my person, such as my economic status and political views.

Perhaps you’ve noticed the lack of advertisements on this website, and are curious as to why I’m paying money to get rid of them. After all, I’m not making any money off of it. You’re even making conclusions right now from that last sentence alone.

Perhaps, you haven’t thought any of that at all.

Everyone has thoughts about everyone, from those we pass by in the hallway to those we’ve known for years. I, for one, constantly feel judged when I step outside my dorm room and see people staring at me. Doesn’t matter if I’m wearing a good outfit or if my hair is particularly agreeable that day. And I’m almost sure that you, dear reader, often feel the same.

But, we’re thinking about this wrong, and to prove it, let me ask a question: What do you think of others when you look at them? When you’re walking past a stranger, just another face in the never-ending crowd?

For me, I almost always think nothing. I simply glance at the person for a split second and… move on.

Sure, sometimes I look at someone for more than that second. Nine times out of ten, it’s because I love their outfit but can’t compliment them out of inconvenience or anxiety. The other times it’s simply because there’s something unique about that particular human being that has drawn me in.

Then, I simply move on, once again.

If I move on, and if you likely move on, then maybe others do as well. Perhaps, we are little more than just passing thoughts to others, and there is nothing to feel anxious about.

As I’ve heard another person on the internet put it, we’re horrible mind readers, and it’s often better to take things at face value unless the actions and words of that person deem otherwise.

To give an analogy, it’s like being in a movie where the characters assume so many things about the others that these miscommunications alone create the plot. Don’t be one of those characters, and make things interesting without the constant stress of what another might, potentially, think of you.

Until next time,
