These words, they're what I live for. My passions, loved ones… what is my world without them?

“Let me do this right”

Started writing this a few days ago and have been scrambling to get a good recording as I fought the tail-end of a common cold. A metronome is being used as a beat here, but I imagine it to be more synth/bass-like if ever fully produced. As it is, it’s just me and my piano against the world for this song. A world where I cannot play the piano. More notes after the lyrics.

Lyrics:

When the words won’t verbalize
And the fire’s in our eyes
Would you let me do this right?
Would you let me do this right?

Come and take, what’s yours is mine
Sharing comfort and our highs
Would you let me do this right?
Would you let me do this right?

Would you let me wine and dine you, babe?
Would you brush the strands off of my face?
Play the cliche, go and play the game?
Royal flushing, chips gonna have to wait

Standards high but don’t want no bouquet
Get that soil so the roots can stay
Communicate, are we on the same page?
Darling, tell me we’re on the same page?

This is what I want
Don’t tell me this is just for fun

When the words won’t verbalize
And the fire’s in our eyes
Would you let me do this right?
Would you let me do this right?

Come and take, what’s yours is mine
Sharing comfort and our highs
Would you let me do this right?
Would you let me do this right?

Would you like the romance part?
A matching piece of art
Meet me where you are
We’ll build a house of cards

Come to mend our hearts
Stay to trace the stars
Even if we’re far
I’ll meet you where you are

This is what I want
Darling tell me this is what you want

When the words won’t verbalize
And the fire’s in our eyes
Would you let me do this right?
Would you let me do this right?

Come and take, what’s yours is mine
Sharing comfort and our highs
Would you let me do this right?
Would you let me do this right?

The entire story behind this song is rejecting hook-up culture. Wanting to be with someone in an intimate way, but where intimate is defined by vulnerability and care rather than sex. A letter to my future self to not settle for anything less- although one could argue that this is technically about someone in the present who I’d like to have this experience with. Alas, there is a reason I have an anonymous website, and it is not because I am bold with my feelings towards others.

After a very unexpected (on my part) conversation with someone, I’ve decided it’s important to try different genres and, more generally, have a decent idea of what genres I’m producing. I believe this song to be somewhere in the contemporary synth pop area, inspired by “BUSY/SIRENS” by Saba (great music to choreograph to as well). I think it turned out quite nicely for how little production went into it.

Until next time,
